How To Dye Clothes Using Venus Dye

Hi Guys! This is Andrea and I'm here to give you some instructions and tips on how to dye your clothes.

Before starting the tutorial, Venus fabric dye or also known just as "Venus Dye" is can be applied on cotton and polyester. Many people have been asking me how I dyed my shorts to ombre using other dyes but I only recommended Venus Dye since it is easy to use and it is sold on an affordable price at National Bookstore Outlets in the Philippines for only 5 pesos per sachet. 

 Anyway, for my first try I tried the yellow Venus dye on my jeans, it still worked but if you're expecting the exact color of the dye to come out, please don't ever dye your jeans without bleaching it or else it will become like this:

Well, I call this a total experiment. I was just curious about the whole thing because I have to make my own costume. Anyway, going back to the dyeing topic, here is an originally gray reconstructed shirt that I dyed yellow this is without the bleaching process.

I know it's not the bright yellow you expected the reason for that is the colors mixed because I haven't bleach this top. I'll try on dying it yellow again next time. But for now, what I advise you is to use a white clothing.

Okay, these are the things that you will be needing for the dyeing process:

Water 

- Any amount will do. What's in the instructions was to use 1 gallon but I only use a half gallon to make the color darker. Now, I have done this a lot of times already and the more water you use the lighter the color will become. Just make sure that the whole clothing will be submerged in water. I recommend you to use a small basin if you're dyeing only one shirt. but if you're dyeing many clothes, go for the bigger one.

Venus Fabric Dye (Color of your choice)

- I usually use 5 packs of dye because I want the color to be stronger or darker. It's available at National Bookstore (Philippines).

Salt (1:4)

- If you use a half gallon of water, put 2 tablespoons. If you use 1 gallon, put 4 tablespoons of salt. 

Clothing (It's better if it's white. You'll get the color that you want if it's like that.)



Are you all set? Let's start to dye our clothes!


Step 1: Boil water along with salt.

 Step 2: Mix Venus Dye first and then boiled water into the basin.

 Step 3: Put your clothing into the mixture and DO NOT LEAVE IT or else the color would not be distributed properly. You need to flip the clothing from time to time or if the water is still hot you can stir it with a spoon or a wooden stick. Don't worry, the color won't stick to your spoon. Do it for 30 minutes. (I do it for about an hour or even until the water gets cold.)

 Step 4: When you're done, wash your clothing with cold water WITHOUT SOAP/DETERGENT.

 Step 5: When you're done, make sure that you'll DRY IT COMPLETELY AND IRON IT BEFORE WASHING IT AGAIN WITH VINEGAR. That's a tip so that the color won't fade after dying your clothes.
